Sundays have become a day reserved for Hip-Hop ever since the Radio Personality, TV Producer, Festival Organizer, and South African Hip-Hop Scholar, RASHID KAY, started hosting HIP-HOP MASTER CLASS SESSIONS at AFRO-BRU in Maboneng Precinct, which he hosts with Radio Personality OG SAMKE. Keeping the light shining during Lockdown, for the love of Hip-Hop, Rashid Kay has created a platform for SA Hip-Hop to remain alive every week, while unearthing New and Fresh talent the industry is yet to see.
On the 5th of September, #VaalHipHop was also given its platform to shine. The Session served as the biggest lineup to date, with over 35 PERFORMING ACTS, truly showing that VAAL is indeed Versatile At All Levels. The versatility of the lineup ranged from BoomBap Hardcore Lyricism that Vaal is well known for, to Trap, Trap Soul, Drill, including New Wave, as well as Vaal’s own Stadiana Rap.
In addition, BEAT PRESENTATIONS were added to the lineup to illustrate the foundation of what makes the HIP-HOP SOUND to be what it is.
The Mighty GOLDEN SHOVEL of Optical Ill[usion] was the MAIN ACT Headlining the show, where he shared some of the new Music that he’s been cooking, as well as the Classics he’s known for, that shaped and influenced not only #VaalHipHop, but South African Hip-Hop at large.
